People voting for people, for people are people too…
That is to say: people are imperfect and make mistakes, even when they are elected to office.
There are reasons people voted the way they did. Many, it appears, voted for Obama because he was the man for “Change” – whatever that means as it was only vaguely defined by Obama himself as change from what we currently have. Many voted for him because they didn’t like McCain. Many voted for him because they were racist. Many voted for him because they simply did not pay close attention to what he was really ‘not’ saying. I think the majority of people voting for McCain, myself included, did so pinching our noses.
While McCain is no better than a RINO, but he certainly will not drive our country further into a Communist/Socialist state where the Government controls more and more aspects of your life. Too many people have forgotten that the Constitution and Bill of Rights exist not to protect Government but protect the governed from Government. Take the Second Amendment: it is, in part, meant ensure that Government is afraid of the people, not the other way around (ie: don’t mess with us, or you will be tossed out like the Brits).
Things more likely will not happen rapidly since people would certainly knee jerk the offenders out of office. No, it more likely will happen like the proverbial frog in the skillet: warm it up slowly and watch it cook alive. Obama will not suddenly take our rights away in January, but he will certainly lay the foundation for those rights to be taken away and so weaken our ability to earn and defend ourselves in this nation that we feel compelled to rely on Government. He will most certainly stack the Supreme Court and Federal Courts with judges who feel the Constitution is “Evolutionary” as opposed to merely flexible so that the Second Amendment won’t be killed, it will simply be redefined – just like marriage was being redefined by judicial fiat. There is not much solace in the Democrats lacking a super majority in Congress since they more likely will rule that Filibusters are ‘necessary’.
Now, I believe in a type of socialism; not that which is forced upon the people by Government but that which is more commonly and traditionally known as Generosity, Compassion, and, as Dickens loved it: Charity. Communism/Socialism hates Charity because it removes power away from Government and empowers the individual; it removes reliance on Government to solve problems and places it into the hands of the people.
The American people have Foolishly and Stupidly, elected to office a man who will instill the Tyranny of Communism deeper into our government and more than likely succeed where FDR failed by instilling it into the Constitution with a “Second Bill of Rights”. There is the natural euphoria and feel good of electing a “Man of Change”, but you just don’t know the kind of change you have really just put into office – unless you are communist yourself. Fascism and Communism are not really different from each other in the end as they only differ on the mechanism of the feel-good they offer. In either event, they are a poor substitute and more deeply corrupt than people who are self-governed and look after each other.
Very well done Shannon. I will be sure to paste this link to ALL my friends, Left and Right.
I wish the general public that voted could see further than the end of their paycheck. If they would look into the future and for what a majority of the Democrats stand for, they would have to agree with your opinion.
Come on Nosey! What do you think?
I should reinforce the emphasis and context of “Foolishly and Stupidly” since I know a lot of very intelligent people and well educated people who voted for Obama: Stupidly voted for him if they did so based on his race. I would have voted for Obama if it were not for his sociological leaning – race had nada to do with my vote for McCain. Foolish because more of them voted looking for change without seriously questioning what that change consisted of and without considering the ultimate cost to individual freedoms when government gets bigger and more ‘responsible’ for the citizens daily well being.
Sure, people want change from the past 8 years, but Change can go in many different directions and often, as in the case of large organizations that have increasing power: change for the worse. The old saying is still quite appropriate: Power Corrupts and (to tweak that saying)increasing power corrupts increasingly.
When great power is in the hands of a concentrated few the corruption is concentrated and it’s increase even greater. Spread the power out to the overall population and that power is diluted as well as it’s corrupting influence. It is much like poison: Concentrate it and you can kill, heavily dilute it and at the worse some will get sick. People of great character can stand against that corruption for a time; people of such character are the ones we want as leaders, but Voters, oddly, do not take the time to look at the character of the men and women they elect. They listen to brief snippets from the TV or the Paper, but those offer little substance and guarantee no lack of partisanship. They often fail to look deeply into the background because they are busy with their lives, don’t have the time, or simply think the TV and Paper are sufficient. Unfortunately, the TV and Papers did little to tell us the character of Obama. His immediate voting record in the Senate is brief and what was heard concerning his past was always cast in shadow and called irrelevant to the man – except when it was beneficial to his argument for being President.
It speaks for itself: great power with few holding it.
I sincerely hope that I am wrong about Obama and that he strengthens the country; strengthens individual freedoms, but I have great reason to believe I am correct in my analysis.
I too hope for the best. Who wouldn’t?
I will now stand behind my president, with the hopes he makes the correct decisions for the entire country.
I’m not a highly educated person that can throw out reasoning as detailed as some. BUT I have some basic common sense that most Americans have and they don’t use when it comes to evaluating the leaders of our country.
In my humble opinion, it comes down to.
1. Do you feel you should receive what you work for and make decisions for yourself and be accountable for them? or
2. Do you want the Government to make decisions for you and provide for you?
By the way Shannon, you should write a book. You have a talent for writing with some very intelligent insight.
